This project included the repair and renovation of the First Battalion Recruit Barracks, a 119,242 SF concrete framed brick veneered building originally built in the late 1960s at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. The project provided interior repairs and refurbishing to include painting interior finishes, replacing ceramic tile floors in the hear areas, repairing walls and replacing ceramic tile walls. The scope of work also included replacing the ductwork and HVAC units in the squad bay areas. HVAC repairs included a steam to hot water converter and automatic control systems. This project also included the replacement of doors and hardware throughout the building, repairs to the building envelope to stop moisture intrusion, and replacing damaged concrete. Asbestos abatement and hazardous material procedures were part of the selective building demolition. Sustainability features included high-efficiency HVAC and electrical systems, low-flow plumbing fixtures, low VOC paints and adhesives, operable windows with permanent shades for individual temperature control, and materials with recycled and regional content. Construction was completed in January 2018, safely and on budget.
